A Very Nashville Thanksgiving
Holidays celebrate traditions. Here are a few lesser known Nashville post-dinner options that you might consider and enjoy this season.
For any native Nashvillian, one tradition well known locally is the annual drive to see holiday lights. It's always a treat to load up the car after the coffee and pie to head out and enjoy one or more of the many lovely options here in Nashville and the surrounding areas.
Our most well-known feature, of course, is the Opryland Hotel with its three million lights. Always a welcomed treat, its presentation is actually ready for viewing in early November.
Featured alongside the many lights is the hotel's life-sized Nativity on their Magnolia Lawn. It's not only stunning but inspiring. Grab a coat and scarf as you stroll through the majestic pieces while listening to Luke Chapter wo read aloud and set to music!
West-siders generally make the drive over to the lovely Cheekwood Botanical gardens for their Holiday Lights Spectacular. The magical display at Cheekwood Mansion offers an elegant mile-long walking path illuminated with more than one million lights, hot chocolate, carolers, and even real reindeer that visit for the holiday season!
For a more exuberant experience, cars line up nightly beginning in November to drive through The Dancing Lights of Christmas at Jellystone Park. As central Tennessee’s largest drive-thru holiday light and music show, vehicles packed with kids, and even family dogs, are treated to computerized LED Christmas lights which dance to lively holiday and patriotic tunes. There's even an animated 35-foot Christmas tree!
If this Nashville light viewing tradition is a bit new to you, I hope you will consider adding it to your special day this season. We never cease to be amazed at all that Music City has, and continues, to offer. And too, we'd love to hear which venue you chose this season and what you, your family, and/or guests thought about their experience.
From all of us to all of you, a very Happy Thanksgiving and Happy Holidays!
